Awarded with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in 2016.

Andrzej Byrt was born on 20 September 1949 in Poznań. He graduated from high school with a lead French language and he studied foreign trade at the Poznań University of Economics and Business and subsequently conducted doctoral studies on International Economic Relations at the University of Economics in Poznań which he completed in 1976 with a successful defence of his doctoral thesis entitled “ Competitiveness in international trade of industrial goods”.

For many years he was an employee, general director and chairman of the Management Board of the International Poznań Fairs (MTP). He then carried out a broad investment programme and expanded the scope of trade events of MTP in the country and outside of its borders, increasing the participation of MTP on the Polish fairs market as well as its revenues and profitability.

As a diplomatic representative of our country abroad he was a trade attaché at the Polish embassy in Brussels (1987–1990), where he was promoted for a commercial advisor, chief of the office of the commercial counsellor of the Polish Embassy in Brussels. He was nominated for an Embassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland in the Federal Republic of Germany twice 1995–2001 and 2002–2006). In 2001 he was a consultant for the President of Poland on German and economic matters, subsequently, he was appointed to be the undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, where he was responsible, among others, for Bilateral relations between Poland and the European Union states, Africa and the Middle East as well as for economic matters, cultural matters and public diplomacy between Poland and the world. Since 2014 he has been the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland in the Republic of France and the Principality of Monaco.

Andrzej Byrt is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences economic committee, member of the colleges of the economic award of the President of Poland as well as of many more social bodies. For many years he has also been a lecturer of international economic relations, the art of diplomacy, international economic negotiations and the diplomatic protocol.

For his so-far achievements, he was honoured with Officer Cross (1997) and Commander Cross (2011),  the Order of Poland's Renaissance,  large cross with a star and a band of the Order of Merit of the

Federal Republic of Germany (2001), large cross  of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Estonia (2002), Order of Merit of Rhineland-Palatinate (1997) as well as with several industry and social honours.
