Professor Danuta Hübner, European Union Commissioner for Regional Policy, became the twenty thirst doctor honoris causa of the Poznań University of Economics and Business.

It is, at the same time, the first doctorate honoris causa after the change in university name.


The ceremony of granting the title of doctor honoris causa to the present European Union Commissioner for Regional Policy was held on 20 February 2009. It was the key programme point of the Official Session of the Senate in relation to the change of name from the University of Economics in Poznań to the Poznań University of Economics and Business, the formal change of the name occurred on 27 December 2008. The former name obtained the university status, which is the consequence of obtaining six entitlements to appoint doctoral scientific degrees.


The title of doctor honoris causa of the University was granted, among others, to Lady Margaret Thatcher, Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz, Dr Klaus Haensch, Prof. Janos Kornai.


During the event, Vice-Marshal of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, Wojciech Jankowiak, granted to His Magnificence Rector prof. dr. hab. Marian Gorynia, prof. zw. PUEB “Honourable Badge of Merit for the Greater Poland Voivodeship” with which the Poznań University of Economics and Business, was honoured by the Management of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
