Graduate of the Poznan University of Economics, awarded the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences.
In the years 1978 - 1986 he was professionally associated with the Poznań International Fair. Dr. Byrt served as Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy in Brussels and Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations.

In 1995 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany for the first time. In the same year, he served as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Leszek Miller’s government. In 2002, reappointed ambassador in Germany for four years.

He was a consultant of the PIF management, and since 2009 Chairman of the Board. He is also the President of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry and he was a member of the board of the Foundation Amicus Europae, appointed by Aleksander Kwasniewski.
In 1997, President Aleksander Kwasniewski awarded him the Officer's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland. In 2011, he was rewarded the Commander's Cross by the President Bronislaw Komorowski.

He also received the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Estonian Order of the White Star, 2nd class.
