First lecture of Executives in Residence program

January 18, 2023

On January 13th 2023, took place the first lecture of the Executives in Residence program entitled Why employers need to think of Artificial Intelligence as an “employee”?
The future of the labor market, where artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role, was discussed by Jim Link – a member of the human resources board of the Society for Human Resource Management, the largest human resource management trade association in the world.

The lecturer dealt with stereotypes about the potential threat posed by AI. He presented it in terms of benefits.

– Artificial intelligence enhances our capabilities. It can analyze huge amounts of data in a short period of time, assisting us in decision-making processes. It increases the accuracy of choices, thereby reducing uncertainty and risk, including business risk. It proves well in forecasting, identifying patterns and trends, providing information. It also replaces us in performing repetitive, tedious tasks. Wider implementation of AI will lead to increased efficiency in every sector – Link claimed.

The speaker assured that AI will not deprive us of employment. Instead, it will change work styles and required competencies. Some tasks and job positions will disappear, while new career opportunities will appear in their place. Specialists well versed in the world of new technologies will be needed.

According to Jim Link, a new paradigm of thought is necessary. He argues that we cannot see the future as a “humans versus robots” antagonism. Tomorrow will be based on collaborations and partnerships under the banner the “humans and robots.”

On the same day, during a workshop prepared together with SKN HRview, Jim Link took on the role of an AI applying for a job. The students, acting as professional recruiters, asked questions to identify the legitimacy of hiring artificial intelligence for tasks that increase process efficiency.

The Executives in Residence initiative at the University of Economics is a new format for working with high-level international executives.
