I. The mission of the Poznań University of Economics and Business (PUEB) is to educate students at the highest theoretical and practical levels, and to conduct academic research. To maintain its high position among economic universities in Poland and in Europe, it is imperative that the University should constantly improve the quality of research activity, raise its educational standards, and maximise its efficiency, with the support of academic and administrative staff, and in co-operation with domestic and foreign partners.

To realise this mission in the context of the Lifelong Learning Programme, the University has adopted the following priorities for the years 2007-2013:

  • to continue the internationalisation of the educational process and research activity,
  • to intensify student exchange, with particular emphasis on preparation for professional careers,
  • to increase academic staff qualifications through training schemes and exchange with foreign partners,
  • to develop and improve the educational offer at all teaching levels. 

To fulfil tasks resulting from the University’s mission and priorities, the PUEB intends:

  • to intensify systematically student exchange in order to double this year’s figures (217 outgoing and 84 incoming students);
  • to increase its promotion activity to reduce the disproportion between the numbers of outgoing and incoming students,
  • to intensify academic staff exchange through the promotion of visits to partner universities and the reception of foreign guests,
  • to expand the University’s educational offer for first-cycle, second-cycle, doctoral, and post-diploma studies; to launch first-cycle (three-year) and second-cycle (two-year) programmes in English, and to integrate compulsory practical placements into the curricula of more programmes,
  • to develop co-operation with foreign companies where students will carry out practical placements,
  • to encourage academic staff to participate in multilateral projects and thematic networks,
  • to support the University staff’s participation in domestic and foreign training programmes and research projects,
  • to seek new sources of finance for international activity.

To promote the University and its activity undertaken as part of the Erasmus programme, we are developing information materials in Polish and in English, publishing them in print form and on the University’s website, and organising meetings with the University’s students and staff in order to present available possibilities. The EPS principles specified in this document were approved by the PUEB Senate on 23 February 2007 and published on the University’s website. The granting of the Erasmus University Charter is to be announced to the academic community during the Senate meeting; in addition, relevant information is to be published on the website and in the University’s newsletter.

The PUEB grants all students the same rights and privileges, irrespective of their sex, colour, state of health, and material status.

II. The Poznań University of Economics and Business introduced the ECTS system in 2000, initially as a transfer system, then as a universal system of credit accumulation. The University has developed and continuously updates the Polish-language and English-language versions of the ECTS information package, available on the website, containing all information about the University, including course syllabi and practical information for students. The Research and International Relations Office (R&IRO) is responsible for providing information, helping with administrative matters, and organising the orientation day for incoming students. For incoming students, the R&IRO arranges accommodation with Polish students at halls of residence. All foreigners are given the opportunity of starting or continuing to study Polish. R&IRO staff co-ordinate activity to support foreign students’ integration with the local community by arranging buddy care (receiving students at the airport or the railway station, showing them around, and providing help, especially at the beginning of their stay) and co-operating with student associations which organise trips and integration events. R&IRO staff also carry out the qualification process for Erasmus programme candidates on the basis of the rules agreed and approved by the representatives of the University’s authorities. The R&IRO provides information, documentation and financial services for PUE students participating in the Erasmus programme. Programme curricula at foreign universities are checked by students’ supervisor and faculty ECTS co-ordinators. The R&IRO co-ordinates and organises staff exchange by conducting information and promotion campaigns among academic staff, and by helping them with all the necessary arrangements that foreign trips involve.

III. One of the main priorities for the PUEB is to provide students with comprehensive highest-quality education in order to prepare them for future careers. Students are encouraged to develop practical skills through participation in practical placements during their studies. Carrying out practical placements as part of the Erasmus programme will be possible with the consent of all interested parties: the student, his/her university, and the foreign company where the placement is to be carried out. Agreements with foreign companies are to be signed by the University itself or through intermediary companies. A sine qua non for starting a practical placement is for the parties involved to sign an agreement containing the programme, goal, expected results, duration and rules of the placement, the student trainee’s rights, and each party’s obligations. The agreement must be reached in co-operation with all parties, and accepted by the student, the placement supervisor on behalf of the University, and the company representative responsible for the running of the placement. While determining the goal and scheme of the placement, the supervisor is to make sure that its framework will bring about effects which can later be used by the student in his/her thesis. The placement supervisor on behalf of the University is to oversee the course of the placement, staying in touch with the student and the host company. The supervision is to be exercised using modern IT technologies and, as far as possible, during monitoring visits to the companies where the placement takes place. The supervisor’s responsibilities also include evaluating the student’s performance in the placement and skills he/she has acquired. Information on the student’s performance in the placement is to be presented on the list of achievements and credits obtained (in the case of compulsory placements included in the curriculum) or in the Diploma Supplement (in the case of optional placements).
