Excellent performance of our athletes at the Polish Academic Championships in Poznań
Athletes representing the Poznań University of Economics and Business were spectacularly successful at the Polish Academic Athletics Championships, held from 20 to 22 May, 2022 at the POSiR stadium in Poznań. In the category of socio-economic universities, our university took 2nd place, scoring 357.5 points, second only to the Military University of Technology in Warsaw.
Our athletes stood on the podium decorated with gold, silver and bronze medals:
- Jan Wawrzkowicz – a student majoring in accounting and business finance – won the 1st place in the OPEN and socio-economic college categories on the 400 m distance, with an excellent time of 46.84 seconds, beating Mateusz Rzeźniczak – a finalist at the Tokyo Olympics in the 4×400 m relay. In addition, our athlete achieved an excellent time on the 200 m distance: 21.73 sec.
- Marcin Wrotyński – a student majoring in quality and product development – won the1st place in the OPEN and socio-economic universities categories in the hammer throw, with a personal record of 73.74 meters. He is the third best athlete in this competition in Poland, after the medalists of the Tokyo Olympics: Wojciech Nowicki and Paweł Fajdek.
- Ryszard Piasecki – a student majoring in accounting and business finance – won the 800-meter run in the socio-economic university category.
- The 4x400m relay team composed of: Ryszard Piasecki, Wiktor Murkowski, Maciej Kempa and Jan Wawrzkowicz won silver in the category of socio-economic universities.
- The 4x400m relay team composed of: Piotr Eliasz, Krystian Strzelczyk, Filip Brągiel and Michał Ratajczyk took the 3rd place on the podium in the category of socio-economic universities.

The club coach of three of our medalists is mgr Szymon Bytniewski of PUEB, and the Athletics Section coach is mgr inż. Rafał Wieruszewski. The Athletics Section is one of the strongest sections of our University. Over the past 10 years, the section has won 10 team medals in both the men’s and women’s categories.
