Dr. Arkadiusz Kawa, prof. PUEB, together with Prof. Davor Dujak from Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia), published an article entitled “The impact of logistics requirements and adjustments on firm performance: evidence from wood biomass supply chains” in the journal Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain (IF=6.8).

The paper focuses on how logistics requirements related to the wood biomass supply chain and related adjustments affect the operational efficiency and firm performance. The study fills an important gap in the literature on biomass logistics, presenting the first empirical model of this type. It is based on data from companies operating in wood supply chains for biomass. Various logistics requirements (e.g. raw material diversity, transport availability) and operational adjustments (schedule modifications, storage flexibility) were analysed.

The research found that appropriate logistical adjustments, such as flexible transport and storage planning, have a direct, positive impact on company performance. On the other hand, failure to adapt to requirements (e.g. lack of flexibility, inconsistency of schedules) significantly reduces efficiency and operational performance. It is worth investing in flexible logistics infrastructure and scalable solutions in the biomass supply chain. Insufficient adjustments can lead to downtime, increased costs and loss of competitiveness.
