„Revealing the secret” – an exhibition in the Reading Room

We invite you to the Reading Room for the exhibition “Revealing the Secret.” We will be revealing, through up-close access, the oldest collections of our Library – publications that are kept in storage and rarely made publicly available.

In specially prepared display cases, we present old prints from the first half of the 18th century, economic books from the early 19th century, 19th-century periodicals, and unique reports from companies and banks from the second half of the 19th century. Each of these symbols is a testament to its era and allows us to understand the economic and intellectual realities of the time.

The exhibition includes, among other things, manuals on bookkeeping – the former accounting profession, which taught how to keep ledgers and balance sheets – as well as books on regulated arithmetic. The examples and characters included in these examples reflect how financial management, calculating ratios, and currency conversion were taught over two hundred years ago.
