Department of International Economics

The Department of International Economics is made up of ten academics investigating cross-border flows of goods, services and technology. With regard to the service sector, our research interests concentrate primarily on tourism, the development of which represents an important source of income and growth for many economies. The industry was hit hard by border closures during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ongoing global political and economic crisis is not making it any easier to return to normality.

About the Department

The global community is raising questions about how to manage in a resource-constrained world plagued by multiple threats. As scientists, we are looking for answers to these questions, which leads us in the direction of sustainable development. In the sphere of trade in goods, we study phenomena related to the reconfiguration of global value chains and, more broadly, the transformation of the globalisation process, emphasising the effects of increasing digitalisation. Although we do not limit our research geographically, we do have a particular focus on developing countries.

We publish the results of our research in journals and monographs and present them at forums of international scientific associations. Our team includes board members of the International Trade and Finance Association, the Tourism Research Centre and the Wielkopolska Tourism Organisation.

We conduct lectures, workshops and seminars in programs of study compatible with our research profile, i.e. international economic relations and tourism economy.
