International scientific conference PUEB Horizons. A Doctoral Conference for Innovative Research.

On the 1^st and 2^nd of June our University hosted an international conference PUEB Horizons. A Doctoral Conference for Innovative Research organized by the PUEB Doctoral School. The even was a part of the anniversary celebrations of the century since PUEB’s establishment and was also one of the doctorate students development initiatives including European Doctoral Day. The conference was attended by students from nine countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Germany, Norway,  Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.

The goal of the conference was to create a platform for information exchange, research presentations, research skills development and building an international network among doctoral students.

Conference program was characterised by the vast diversity from key note speakers and panel discussions to traditional paper and poster sessions.  On top of that, the participants had the opportunity to take part in 3-minute Thesis Competition and a variety of highly informative workshops and seminars which developed their research skills.

During the first day of the conference prof. Robert Faff (Corvinus University of Budapest) gave a lecture titled „Responsible Use of GenAI in Research”, and prof. Theocharis Grigoriadis (Free University of Berlin) gave a lecture titled „The Mobility of Nations: Refugees, Migrants & Polarization in the Long 20th Century”. The day concluded with an celebratory Gala Dinner on PUEB Terrace where prof. Maciej Żukowski talked about the history of Poland, Poznań, Poznań University of Economics and Business. The event gave the participants the opportunity to get to know each other, network and exchange experiences in a more casual setting.

During the second day of the conference there was a discussion panel titled „Impact-driven research – how much are policy recommendations important?” moderated by prof. Katarzyna Szarzec. Prof. Ewa Mińska-Struzik, prof. Robert Faff, prof. Lubor Lacina and prof. Theocharis Grigoriadis took a part in the discussion. The key element of the conference were the competitions promoting the highest quality of doctoral studies. The head of the competition committee was prof. Lubor Lacina (Mendel University in Brno).

The event was possible thanks to the support of National Agency of Academic Exchange (NAWA) who funded the event as a part of the STER program.
