PUEB graduate is a winner of competition for the best master's thesis on migration issues

June 3, 2022

Social policy graduate Ksenia Pestsova has won the Migration Research Center at Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań competition for the best master’s thesis on migration for 2021. The master’s thesis entitled “No job dishonors? Employment discrimination by nationality in Poland” was prepared under the supervision of dr Anna Waligóra of the PUEB Department of Sociology and Business Ethics.

The master’s thesis presents an analysis of the phenomenon of labor discrimination of foreigners by nationality in the Polish labor market. The author included recommendations on preventing labor discrimination of foreigners.

After conducting qualitative research, the author of the paper noted the problems that created the new area of challenges in research related to the migration issues. The first problem is that foreign workers are not well informed about the possibility of seeking help from various social organizations. The second problem is fighting the effects of discrimination and not preventing it. Organizations mostly offer the possibility to report discrimination incidents that have already occurred. However, there are still few activities aimed at preventing discrimination in the workplace. The third problem is related to the fact that foreign workers do not believe in the possibility of punishing people who discriminate others at work, so they do not report cases of discrimination to the relevant institutions.

Congratulations to the winner!
