Open science

Both the concept of open science and the practical open access to scientific content are becoming increasingly important in the context of global and local science policy. Many top research institutions, universities, and research funders have implemented open access policies to make scientific content more accessible to the public. The scientific community acknowledges and actively endorses discounting the following benefits from the introduction of the open access model: promoting science in society, improving the quality of scientific research (through scrutiny by the scientific community), enhancing the circulation of digital scientific content, especially publications and research data, and increasing the efficiency of public fund allocation.

Open access at Poznań University of Economics and Business

Poznan University of Economics and Business aligns with global trends in open science by effectively enhancing the accessibility of research results to all stakeholders. In 2022, PUEB implemented an Open Access Policy for scientific publications by PUEB employees and doctoral students, as well as individuals involved in research and development at PUEB. According to the approach proposed there, authors seek to provide open access to publications by:

1)  publishing in peer-reviewed open access scientific journals and books;

2) ploading the electronic form of the publication to the UEP Knowledge Base, ideally in its final published version, or if not possible, in accordance with the publisher’s policy.

Authors at the University of Economics and Business in Poznań work to make their works available to the public, following the publisher’s policy or contract, so that they can be accessed by anyone at any time and place, with the freedom for unlimited use.

In addition, in order to harmonize open access activities, the PUEB’s  Rector appointed an Open Access Officer in 2023.

Work is currently in progress to create a research data repository that will grant access to the data used in the research.

Open access provides authors with a variety of benefits, mainly:

  • enhancing the author’s recognisability,
  • increasing visibility of scientific content,
  • enhancing the citation level of papers,
  • meeting grant obligations,
  • facilitating contacts and cooperation with other researchers and research centres.

Although the issue of open access is extremely broad, concrete, practical solutions are increasingly important in day-to-day research work. The guide below contains a selection of key tips on how to meet the formal requirements for open access and how to use open science resources.
