Jubilee Conference Celebrating the 70th Birthday of Professor Marian Gorynia
On 29 September 2026, Poznań University of Economics and Business will host the Jubilee Conference Celebrating the 70th Birthday of Professor Marian Gorynia, a distinguished economist and internationally recognised scholar in the fields of international competitiveness, international business, and strategic management.
The conference will celebrate Professor Gorynia’s outstanding academic, educational, and organisational achievements. His research has made a significant contribution to the development of economics and management studies in Poland. Professor Marian Gorynia is the founder of the Poznań School of Competitiveness Research and the author of numerous publications devoted to firm and national competitiveness, business internationalisation, and the functioning of the global economy.
The event will bring together academics, business practitioners, and representatives of public institutions. The programme will include scientific sessions devoted to contemporary challenges in competitiveness, strategic management, and international business, followed by a ceremonial jubilee celebration. The conference will also provide an opportunity to strengthen academic collaboration and to reflect on future research directions in the fields that have shaped Professor Gorynia’s scholarly career.
Professor Marian Gorynia
Professor Marian Gorynia is one of Poland’s leading economists, specialising in competitiveness, international economics, business internationalisation, and strategic management. He has been affiliated with Poznań University of Economics and Business for many years, where he has held numerous academic leadership positions, including that of Rector.
His scholarly achievements include several hundred scientific publications, numerous research projects, and extensive expert and organisational activities. Professor Gorynia has played a pivotal role in advancing research on the competitiveness of firms and economies and is widely recognised as the founder of the Poznań School of Competitiveness Research.

To commemorate the Jubilee, a four-volume scientific monograph entitled The Evolution of the Perception of Competitiveness is being prepared under the editorship of Marian Gorynia, Piotr Trąpczyński, Katarzyna Mroczek-Dąbrowska, Aleksandra Kania, and Jan Szymkowiak.
The publication brings together contributions from scholars representing Polish and international academic institutions, addressing topics related to the competitiveness of firms and economies, international business, and strategic management. The monograph recognises Professor Marian Gorynia’s scholarly achievements while continuing the research traditions developed by him and his collaborators.
The monograph will be published by the Poznań University of Economics and Business Press at the end of 2026. Information about each volume and their tables of contents will be made available on this website upon publication.
Conference participants will receive a commemorative Jubilee publication prepared especially for the occasion. It will include information about Professor Marian Gorynia, his academic achievements and professional career, an interview with the Jubilarian, and materials dedicated to the Jubilee celebration.
An integral part of the Jubilee celebrations will be the Book of Congratulations, containing printed congratulatory messages, memories, and reflections contributed by Professor Marian Gorynia’s colleagues, former students, research collaborators, and friends.
During the conference, participants will be invited to add their own handwritten messages and personal dedications. After the ceremony, the Book of Congratulations will be presented to Professor Marian Gorynia as a unique commemorative gift marking his Jubilee.
Institute of International Business and Economics
The Institute of International Business and Economics at Poznań University of Economics and Business is the organiser of the Jubilee Conference. The Institute comprises seven departments and brings together 71 academic staff members, including 8 full professors and 24 associate professors (habilitated doctors). Their shared research focus is the global economy and its implications for firms, markets, and national economies.
