Prof. Dr. Štefan Bojnec is Professor of Economics and Chair of Department of Economics at the Faculty of Management, University of Primorska, Slovenia. As a researcher and visiting professor, he was active at several institutes and universities in several countries in Europe, the USA and Asia.

His research and teaching areas have been: enterprise economics, international economics, theory and analysis of market structure (industrial organization), economic policy, sectoral economics (agriculture and environment, tourism, energy, education and employment, defence and peace, other industrial and service activities), regional development and rural development and sustainable development of the economy.

He has participated in several national and international research projects, including in several EU-Phare ACE projects and EU-COST projects and projects of the EU 7th Framework Programme. Furthermore, he has participated in several multilateral and bilateral projects with various countries. He was also a member of several expert groups such as at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, European Commission, United Nations (UN), the World Bank and the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). In the years 1996-1997 he worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

His bibliography comprises more than 1,460 bibliographic records, with more than 250 original scientific articles in international scientific journals, more than 100 publications in journals World Web of Science and more than 110 publications in journals Scopus. In 2008 he received the Slovenian state Zois recognition for important scientific achievements in the field of economics.

In addition to the completed twelve supervisions and three co-supervisions of doctoral theses, he was supervisor for more than fifty (scientific) master theses. He was a supervisor to six early stage young researchers, of which four have completed PhD, and two are in a process. The Society of Young Researchers of Slovenia has in recent years nominated him in the final selection of the best supervisors to doctoral students as Supervisor (Mentor) of the year.

He has received several awards at home and abroad, among them "Honorary Professor" of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev.
